2019 NAFSA Region VIII Conference Call for Proposals

Edited: Apr 15

Dear Colleagues,

NAFSA Region VIII is currently seeking proposals for presentations reflecting innovative ideas and research for the 2019 NAFSA Region VIII Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, November 12-15.  The deadline for session, workshop, and poster proposals is June 15!

Do you have a great idea or expertise on a particular topic that you want to share with the international education community? Have you tackled a tricky problem or developed an innovative solution to a challenging issue related to the field? Do you have interesting data, case studies or projects that might benefit your fellow NAFSAns and their work?   If so, please consider submitting a session proposal for the upcoming Region VIII Conference.  Presenting is an invaluable professional development and networking opportunity, and a chance to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues in our field and across our Region!

Looking for ideas or a co-presenter? Share your topic and/or check the spreadsheet to find a collaborator.

All proposals and topic areas are welcome and will be carefully considered in order to present a conference with rich and diverse content.  You can submit your proposal here. Please note that you will need to log in to your NAFSA account in order to access this page.

If you have questions, feel free to contact nafsaregionviii@gmail.com or Region VIII Membership/Networking Coordinator, Jacob Gross at jgross3@upenn.edu.  Conference registration opens in August 2019.

We are excited to announce the 2019 Somewhere Over the Rainbow (SOTR): Conference on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in International Education, to take place Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). While our conferences are entirely separate, SOTR is immediately following the NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference taking place in Washington, DC. As UMD is in the Capital Beltway and metro accessible, this gives those who may be traveling an opportunity to attend two conferences in one trip, if desired. The 2019 conference theme is:  LGBTQ+ Borderlands: Migration, Race, and Refuge We look forward to continuing and enhancing the tradition of unusual and fascinating programming, building on the successes of our 2015 conference , our 2016 webinar series , and our 2017 conference . We have now opened our request for proposals for the conference, and we are looking for sessions that address the theme of LGBTQ+ Borderlands: Migration, Race, and Refuge within three key streams: Theory and Research; Current Events and Social Movements; and Practice, Skills, and Storytelling. Please submit proposals by March 7, 2019. We have also opened registration for the conference. Register now for an amazing experience. Early bird rates are good through March 22, 2019. There are also sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities available we'd be happy to discuss with you. VISIT THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS NOW!
